Herbal Medicine

Evidence based medicine,
rooted in tradition

Medical herbalism draws on centuries of plant knowledge, validated by modern science. It treats the whole person, not just the symptom, to restore lasting balance.

The practice

More than folk remedy

Medical herbalism is a regulated, evidence informed healthcare discipline that uses plants as medicine to restore and support health. Qualified herbalists study for four years, covering plant medicine, human sciences, pathophysiology, clinical nutrition, counselling, and research, before graduating with a degree equivalent qualification.

Where conventional medicine often targets isolated symptoms, herbal medicine looks at the full picture; the interaction between body systems, the role of stress, diet, and lifestyle, and the underlying causes of ill health rather than just its expression. Plants contain complex mixtures of compounds that work synergistically, which is why a skilled herbalist tailors each prescription rather than prescribing off-the-shelf.

The approach at Herbelle Remedies sits within the western herbal tradition, drawing on centuries of European and British plant folklore, while grounding every decision in up-to-date clinical research.

Your first appointment

What happens in a
first consultation

Your first appointment lasts around 90 minutes and is the foundation of everything that follows. Ellie takes the time to understand not just your primary complaint, but your whole health picture, because herbal medicine treats the person, not the condition in isolation.

You'll discuss your current symptoms, your health history, previous treatments, family history, diet, sleep, stress, and lifestyle. Where appropriate, Ellie may conduct a clinical examination. At the end, you'll receive a personalised treatment plan and a bespoke herbal prescription.

  • Symptoms, onset, and patterns
  • Medical and family health history
  • Current medications and supplements
  • Diet, digestion, and sleep quality
  • Stress levels and emotional wellbeing
  • Clinical examination where relevant
  • Personalised herbal prescription

A note from Ellie

Online consultations work wonderfully and I see clients across the UK this way. But if your circumstances allow it, I'd really encourage you to come and see me in person at least once. There's a quality to a face-to-face session; the conversation, the clinical examination, simply being in the same room - that makes a real difference to the depth of care I can offer. Many clients find they get far more from it than they expected. It's always your choice, and there's no pressure either way.
